Great news today thanks to TheOneRing.net. Both Andy Serkis and Sir Ian McKellen have signed to reprise their roles as Gollum and Gandalf respectively. Here is what Sir Ian McKellen had to say about reprising Gandalf as per his twitter page 30 minutes ago.
As I mentioned in my comments section last post, I have decided to look into the character of Thorin Oakenshield and hope to write several posts devoted to his genealogy and backstory. With this in mind, I started to read the Appendices at the back of Return of the King and became completely absorbed by the stories and enchanted with JRR Tolkien's imagination. Oh to have his talent and his eloquence!! On a recent trip to Sydney I almost bought The Silmarillion but came away instead with "Unfinished Tales" because it has a chapter written from Gandalf's point of view describing his first meeting with Thorin II (Oakenshield).
At the moment I am compiling Thorin II's family tree and the history (albeit summarised) of the dwarves. I'm hoping this will place Thorin II in context ... for me at least... so I can get to "know" the character better.
I'll finish this post with a lovely photo that could be in Rivendell.
