An odd thing happened to me today. There is a post I wrote some years ago that has served (quite unintentionally) to connect people I once knew. The "Stats and Referrers" function on the blog lets me know how many hits I've had and approximately where they come from. This particular post can generate from one to six hits daily - visitors seldom leave a comment but it has served to put a handful of people back in touch with one another. I recently noticed a referrer on the stats which, I believe, is a password protected site that I know about but I do not have access to. This morning a person came in from that site to check comments left on this particular post. A long story but I'm 99.9% sure I know who this visitor is. I suspect they are waiting to find a person from their past to rekindle some sort of relationship. I can't quite understand why this "comments peruser" doesn't just contact me (they have my email) and ask me if I've heard from the person concerned..... then again, I would be loathe to release contact details to a person I consider is acting somewhat furtively. I guess going through a blog's comments section is a means of looking less obvious. The irony is that the password protected website the "comments peruser" has access to, may have been set up to prevent this sort of behaviour. I was tempted to take the post down today because I felt quite indignant about the situation but thought better of it - the post has after all brought a number of people together who have wanted to reconnect.
