I confess that I haven't found too many location shots for The Hobbit yet, but fully intend on returning to NZ for another locations tour with Red Carpet Tours. (A great way to see New Zealand with fantastic tour guides .... especially if you are a LOTR/Hobbit fan). Note to self: Write long overdue review on Trip Advisor and Red Carpet website!!
Thorin's first view of Hobbiton from the Prancing Pony
The front door at Bag End ... although I realise RA was not actually here but in the studio when he knocked at the front door.
Now for something a little different. These are the Aratiatia Rapids, North Island. We will see them in Desolation of Smaug - the barrel ride.
Above and Below: Nelson .... also barrel scene in The Hobbit
Above: Mt Tongariro .... which was fairly "frisky" at the time of our visit.
Mt Ruapehu in distance (above) .... Scenes from The Hobbit filmed up that way. (Also good skiing despite being an active volcano)
Andy Serkis crouched here ..... (not RA)
Lake Pukaki - possible location of Laketown with Lonely Mountain in distance.
Glenorchy area - view from set
Glenorchy Area - filming reportedly took place up in mountains to west of Lake Wakatipu
