No vegemite sandwiches!!!
A food policy has been implemented in day care centres in the Hunter New England area which has caused uproar. The Good for Kids, Good for Life program has defined what can be put in a child's lunch box. List as follows:
Recommended serving sizes for a luncheon meal From "Good food for Kids, Good for Life"1 small piece of fruit, such as apricot, kiwi or 1/2 apple, orange, pear.
2 dried apricot halves or 3/4 tablespoon sultanas
1/2 cup milk, 1/2 cup yoghurt
1 slice processed cheese or 20g block cheese
1 slice bread or 1/2 medium bread roll
1/2 cup cooked rice, pasta or noodles
30-50g cooked meat
40-50g fish
30-50g chicken, pork or veal
1/2 cup cooked vegetables
1/2 cup salad vegetables
No spreads.
Oh boy.
Do children get fed at school, though? When I think about our Runnymede three-course lunches I fairly swoon, even though I never ate the liver... quite a difference from the stodge they then fed us at boarding school in England.

Pica, no hot lunches provided at school here except at the canteen. A lot of schools have healthy food canteens so no junk not even out icon - the Aussie meat pie! Unfortunately a lot of health canteens are not making any profit and therefore the schools miss out on the fundraising...a dilemma...

That's pretty limited. The kids can't even have a dessert. Do the lunch police conduct random inspections?

LOL - lunch police! Childcare centres can enforce these rules but schools have less authority.
